A bit about me…

I am Emily. I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist in Perth. I am also a mother and FIFO wife.

I grew up in London and remember being interested in people from a young age. I am fascinated by the way we think, and how we live our lives. Perhaps this is why I was attracted to advertising. I worked in advertising media for over 15 years. My favourite part of that job was studying human behaviour, consumer habits and trying to help create advertising campaigns which matched those patterns.

During that role, I began studying for a Counselling Diploma and knew very quickly that becoming a counsellor was what I wanted to do. But before I could follow this interest, I wanted to travel the world. It was during this experience that I lived and worked in Sydney and fell in love with Australia.

My Work Experience

During my training, I volunteered as a Counsellor at a Refuge for Women in North London. There I worked with victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, as well as women suffering from addiction or eating disorders. It was a great introduction to being a counsellor, and I felt privileged to work directly with clients on a deep level.

My first counselling job in Australia was as a youth counsellor in Sydney. I co-facilitated weekly group therapy sessions for teenage mums experiencing issues such as addiction and sexual abuse.

I came to Perth in 2011. I worked for Sexual Health Quarters (WA), a clinic specialising in all areas of sexual health. There I furthered my speciality in sexual abuse, gender and sexual identity, sexual dysfunction, unplanned pregnancy and post-termination counselling.

As my career progressed, I began to work with couples and treating men with porn addiction issues. These areas were of great interest to me, and so became another focus.

My Qualifications

I received my Advanced Diploma in Counselling in London in 2004. I returned to Sydney and completed a Master of Counselling in 2010. Since then, I have been actively engaged in developing my knowledge of Gestalt, Psychodynamic and Gottman Method approaches. I strongly believe in continuous professional development.

How I work

My aim is to become a person you can trust. I want my room to be a safe place where you can unpack your feelings and discuss the issues you are facing.

I have undergone therapy myself so I know you may feel vulnerable talking to a stranger about intimate issues. We start where you are today and how you are in the moment. And we go at your pace. I tend to use a combination of Gestalt, Psychodynamic and Gottman Method therapies. But every person and couple is different and responds differently to each therapy style. We work together to find what works best for you.

I am a warm, open-minded and non-judgmental person who develops trusted relationships with my clients.

And if you are comfortable (I always ask beforehand), my Groodle dog, Mason, will sit in the session. He’s a gentle and loving dog who has aided many in their healing.
